Excel Basics

For this assignment we just had to use the excel basics and prepare our data. We had to implement our text data with numerical data in order to run the tests on the data. This was very simple to do and very effective when running our T-tests. I was also able to sort whatever information I wanted to into different categories.

TPACK
By being able to run excel on data with college sports we are starting to understand why there are so many similar injuries with the same sports. The content theme assessing data on injuries (CK) can be shown by using the excel basics and T-tests run on all the data (P). By using excel (T) there should be a way to prevent certain injuries from happening in the collegiate atmosphere.

Relation to standards

Using excel and all of its features relates to several ISTE NETS T standards, primarily #2 Design and develop digital age learning experiences because it allows athletic trainers to document and track certain injuries in collegiate sports. It also relates to #3 Model Digital- Age Work and Learning which allows athletic trainers to stay up to date on new technology and how we can utilize it.

Research Overview

For the Research Overview assignment we were supposed to install the data analysis tool pack in excel. This was very simple to so but it had been a while since I had done it. I did it about three years ago in a research class in my Undergraduate classes. I was a little rusty on finding it and uploading it but once I got the ball rolling it was very simple.

TPACK
Teaching athletic training has led the profession to keep track of injuries and focus in on how to prevent them. By being able to utilize this data analysis tool pack we can use it to track certain injuries(CK). At conferences and in classes I can show our findings in lectures, presentations, and our research activities (P). By keeping this organization of the data analysis tool (T) it can greatly assist me in by showing other health care professionals of my findings.

Relation to Standards
With this assignment it could relate to #2 Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning experiences and assignments. This could allow me to track my injuries and with what sport they are associated with. Also it could relate to #5 Engage in Professional Growth and Leadership by allowing me to present my findings to a bunch of colleagues and peers.

Self Assessment @ Midterm

When taking the short survey at Midterm, I got to looking at what the was asked of me this far into class. I knew I was behind on my blog posts due to a family matter that required all of my attention. However, I did realize that I was understanding the information and was up to date up until a certain point throughout the class. I thought for sure earlier in the class I would have been completely lost by now. I think I have been doing pretty good for someone that just learned how to turn a computer on a little less than 4 years ago.

TPACK.
The survey for self assessment at midterm could allow me to assess my students by allowing them to assess their own work. The content theme of self assessment (CK) can be seen in the short survey that we had to take (P). Online organization of my survey(T) can help me see how my students think they are doing throughout my classes.

Relation to Standards This assignment could link to #2 Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments. This allowed me to assess myself and all of the work that I had done up to that point. By using this assessment say in one of my classes could let me know how the students are feeling as well as let me know how they think they are doing in my class.

Pew Milennial Test

I have no idea what this whole survey was trying to represent? I'm guessing it was to show us in what time frame that we were born in. I scored an "81" so I guess I have more in common with the Millennial generation. I don't exactly know what that means however.

TPACK
There is really no understanding to me on how I could relate this to my classes or how to use it in my classes.

Relation to Standards
I guess this relation to standards would #3 Model Digital-Age Work and Learning. It relates to that because it could give me an idea about where my students my stand or what they might know when it comes to technology.

Personality Profile #2

In the personality quiz for Human-metrics it was pretty acurrate when comparing against the hypothetical temperament. In the quiz I turned to be a (ESTJ) when in the temperament I evaluated myself as a (ENTJ). So they were not that far off in comparsion. When looking at these ways to look at personalities it will give me a better outlook on how to talk and teach that individual. If this is able to help me learn who they are it is sure to open a door on how to lead them and what they will respond to better.

TPACK
By using this Quiz in my Athletic Training class, I could use this to see how my students' personalities are and get a better understanding on what will help them exceed in my classroom. The personality quiz and results (CK) can be established and maintained when organizing for specific students in classes and weekly preparations for class assignments (P). I could use this to greatly assist and focus more on individualizing each assignment to fit that if each student by knowing who they are.(T)

Relation to Standards
When looking at the hypothetical temperament it relates to ISTE NETS T standards, primarily #5 Engage in Professional Growth and Leadership because it would allow me and other professionals to grow by understanding the best way to teach our students.

Personality Profile #1

I loved this look at our own personality because this hypothetical temperament pegged me as a Field marshal (ENTJ). It was so right on when I came up with my own code on who I was as a person. I totally agree with everything that the temperament listed me as. In the description it stated that I was a natural leader that takes command and plans everything out short-term or long-term. It mentioned that a Field marshal had a tireless devotion for their job and became impatient with repetition of error. It scared me when reading this because I am the spitting image of this Hypothetical temperament.

TPACK
By using this Hypothetical temperament in my Athletic Training class, I could use this to see how my students' personalities are. For me the theme was of being a field marshal (CK) can be established and maintained when organizing classes, weekly preparations for class assignments, and our budgeting for supplies we will need in our classes (P). I could use this to greatly assist and focus more on individualizing each assignment to fit that if each student by knowing who they are.(T)

Relation to Standards
When looking at the hypothetical temperament it relates to ISTE NETS T standards, primarily #5 Engage in Professional Growth and Leadership because the relation to allowing you to evaluate yourself or anyone else that you work with in understanding them better.

VoiceThread

I enjoyed making the VoiceThread assignment because before we could complete it we had to watch two videos on Keith Richardson. Mr. Richardson opened my mind to ideas that had not been brought to my attention before. These ideas were actually intriguing to hear and relate to when completing our VoiceThread. He talked about two themes one was Creativity in school systems and the other was ADHD medication in our students. I loved relating them back into how we could listen to him and relate them back to us as future teachers and how to incorporate them into our teachings.

TPACK
The VoiceThread contains the theme of Creativity (CK) which can be seen when allowing my students to leave comments in 5 different ways on VoiceThread.(P) The technology used could be a great visual and discussion based assignment.(T)

Relation to NETS T
The VoiceThread primarily relates to Design #1 because it facilitates learning and creativity in which the students can learn use this technology.

Intregration
This tool can be used whenever I teach where it requires the class to be creative and to be able to use technology for learning any subject.

Benderconverter

I found a video on Youtube that dealt with sports injuries and with my profession I see them everyday of the week. It was very simple to download it and easy to convert into an MP3 file. As for the posting and embedding of the video and switching formats now that was new and a little frustrating to say the least.

Here is the link for the website.

TPACK
This would be a great way to show new students to the Athletic Training program that we deal with very serious injuries.(T) I could have them making a video of why they would want to be in the field of athletic training(P). The content would have to be on all aspects of Athletic Training(CK).

Relation to NETS T
This type of instructional technology would relate to engaging in professional growth and leadership #5 by being able to put together videos embedded with information on what Athletic Trainers do for a living and for them to just not think that we are just glorified water-boys.

Jing Screencast

When looking at how to do this assignment, I was extremely nervous but after a day or so of playing around with it I became more confident in using this gadget. For this assignment I chose to show people how to make the Jeopardy game that we did last week. I couldn't really use this gadget when teaching athletic training due to everything being very hands on in our profession. However teaching them to make a Jeopardy game could help them review before a test.

Here is the Video

TPACK
Teaching athletic training requires the integration new sources or ways to teach the class. The content theme of reviewing athletic training before a test (CK) can best taught when the students have to come up with the questions and answers to let other students review and study the information that they will be tested on. (P). My visual tool (T) can greatly make the class learn something new and review in a fun way.

Relation to Standards
When developing this video it relates to the ISTE NETS T standards, by focusing on #1 Facilitating Student Learning and Creativity. This video will allow them to follow the steps and be able to make a jeopardy review on their own for other classmates to take.

Jeopardy Game

I love this tool when going to teach or review before a quiz. I wish my teachers would have used this tool when I was in my undergraduate classes. This Jeopardy tool will make learning fun and encourage more participation from the students. I made my Jeopardy quiz on Athletic Training and for students at the sophomore level in which I would love to teach when I receive my Master's of Education. In order to take this Jeopardy quiz, you will have to have some Athletic Training background as well as First Aid and CPR.

Here is the link to the Jeopardy game.

Words Clouds

In this Post, we were to use Word Cloud of something in our field and post it into a blog post. However, in athletic training, there are really no speeches on athletic training unless it deals with a specific injury. So instead I went through and looked at famous speeches and found one that I can relate to how I feel about athletic training. I used Patrick Henry's "Give me Liberty or Give me Death" Speech. I feel that with the coaches that we deal with these days peace is something that we never get and it is always a war on certain injuries or athletes. Patrick Henry talked in that speech about the price of slavery and I feel like that we are enslaved at times to do what they want in order to keep are job. So in those ways I felt like this speech meant a great deal in regards to athletic training.

Here is the link to get a better look at the Word Cloud.

Jing Image

When I started playing with around with the Jing application I found out that I could incorporate this into the class that I am helping teach.  We are going over how to remove a facemask off of a football helmet.  Students seemed to think that you could cut through the metal bars.  I made this to give them a reference on where to cut before they actually got to practice on a real helmet.

Here is the Hyperlink to a larger viewing of the picture.

The type of file that comes out of Jing is PNG. I save my visual artifacts in my history of Jing and Screencast.com. They will also get saved to my clipboard.  I import Jing objects by hitting the insert picture tool on the toolbar and locating it in the file of my Snagit folder.  I published my artifacts by added them to my blog and hitting the add button after finding which one I would like to publish.  Sharing my artifacts is easy when I have them posted on my blog.

Self Portrait

My self portrait was enjoyable to make and I had some issues with changing the colors of the face after I had already built it.  I solved this problem by changing the colors around the face instead of the face. It was funny though how I looked at it after though because it kind of represented how things change around me but, I will remain the same through all of it.  Here is the site I used to make this picture:

The Snipping Tool

I learned today how to use the snipping tool.  I have ever had to use this nor did I know that this even existed. There is not much to using this new gadget but it is something that is nice to know that exists.  I added something of the Dr. Pierce's information page on the snipping tool.  Check it out below.

Snipping Tool

Grabbing thing has become so necesary that the Microsoft Windows has included a utility to do just that - Snipping Tool.

Different web browsers and different experiences

Today, I finally found out more than what I had ever known about web browsers and what all they could do.  I learned that a browser add on is an important tool; in which I can easily find information that pertains to me and my field of study without having to search the entire internet.  I used a diigo add-on and it was great to use because it is like my own personal library.  It was very easy to install and easy to work.  Before today I had never used a browser add on and had never knew what one was for. The activity of using and setting up a browser add-on felt like it is helping me by expanding my professional growth and leadership by being able to find and post topics on current research and position statements in my athletic training field.  I never realized how much the internet come actually teach me how to use this to better myself and my profession.

My First Blog

I never would have thought that I would be blogging!
